The Department is equipped with a highly sophisticated pharmacognosy & phytochemical laboratory with instruments like HPLC, Spectrophotometer to undertake analytical studies of the drug sample. Various aspects of flora are studied for exploring and determining their properties.
The Department maintains a demonstrative medicinal plant garden within the campus. The department has a National Repository of Genuine Drugs and a rich museum of dry drug samples.
During the year under report, 2 Professor, 2 Associate Professor and 3 Assistant Professors with other supporting technical and non-technical staff were working in the Department.

A Herbal Garden was developed in the Campus for demonstrationand teaching purposes of students and scholars in their day-to-day teaching andtraining activities. More than 170 plants and herbs have been planted in thegarden.
Dravyaguna is the most important branch of Ayurveda whichdeals with the dravya (medicinal substances used in Ayurveda – mainly sourcedfrom medicinal plants) and guna (their properties). P. G. Department ofDravyaguna in engaged in various educational, research and clinical careactivity involving herbal drug. Department is having a well equippedPharmacognosy Laboratory to train the students and to do QC/QA of medicinalplants samples as per API guidelines from the last 30 years. Department has aNational Repository and Herbarium of authentic crude drugs used in Ayurvedawith more than 250 samples. The Departmental Medicinal Plant Museum containsmore than 500 drugs samples from different part of the country. A wellmaintained herbal garden containing more than 300 plant species is presentinside the campus. This department has completed APC projects on developing SOPof Single Drug Standardization for Govt. of India.
The present RRDR will include the plants of local region which includes pan India. The establishment of RRDR will have the state of the art "Regional Raw Drug Repository(RRDR)" which will house natural resources used in the Indian System of Medicine, in the form of herbal and raw drug sample of plant,, minerals and animal origin. Under the RRDR project, the investigators will collect the herbs for its authentication. “Rajasthan and Gujarat come under arid zone. Places such as Udaipur are rich in medicinal plants. What is needed is authentication of the herbs so that people or researchers get original and right herbs. We will collect 500 drugs and conduct its authentication along with its botanical, chemical and genetic profiling. Chances are high of getting a wrong herb from a pharmacy, which is why, authentication of herbs is necessary, It is the first of its kind project in the state under which we are aiming to collect 500 herbs and medicinal plants from Rajasthan and Gujarat for their authentication,
The tenure of the project is five years. Every year, the investigators will study the effectiveness of herbs as it is a common belief that the herbs remain effective for a limited period of time. Under the project, the investigators will find out which herb remains effective for how many years as they will test its botanical and chemical profiling every year for 5 years.
The RRDP will help the needy patients and researchers in getting quality and authentic herbs.
Thus the RRDR at NIA will be highly successful as as elf-sustainable institutional body as it will provide services to the collector of the raw drug to end users.
RRDR have an setup for laboratories i.e. phytochemical, Pharmacognosy, microbiology and taxonomy is ongoing and training program for the skill development of the project staff are also conducted. The staff has also attended the orientation cum hands on training program.
