INTRODUCTION
Bala Roga (Kaumarbhritya) is one of the most important branches of Ayurveda. This Department is imparting teaching and training to Under Graduate, Post Graduate and Ph.D. Scholars.
This branch deals with Neonatal care, Infant feeding and nutrition, Adolescent health and nutrition and also deals with general and chronic diseases and disorders related to Developmental disabilities like Cerebral palsy, Neuro-behavioural diseases like ADHD, Autism, ASD, Musculoskeletal disorders like DMD where significant improvement is provided with the help of Ayurveda therapies.
Bala Roga (Kaumarbhritya) has different hospital facilities for patients like OPD, IPD with play area, Bal-Panchakarma Unit, Swarnaprashana & Vaccination unit, Child Mental health Unit.
At present 1 Professor, 2 Associate Professor and 2 Assistant Professor with other supporting technical and non-technical staff are working effortlessly in the Department.
AIM
To develop competent physicians with a deep commitment to their patients, their profession, their community, and life-long learning by providing a robust clinical environment, experiential curriculum, innovative teaching, opportunities for scholarly activity and attention to personal professional development.
OBJECTIVES
1. To provide highest quality Graduate, Postgraduate, Post-Doctoral teaching, Para medical education and research facilities in Kaumarbhritya.
2. To provide quality Pediatric patient care service under the Ayurveda system of medicine and outreach activities.
3. Human resources and infrastructure of Participating institution will be utilized in conducting project – based research programmes on need specific clinical and drug studies.
4. To work in association with various Governmental and Non-Governmental statutory and professional organizations related to child health care for the welfare of the specialty.
ACADEMIC
A) Under-Graduate Level:
During the year, theoretical as well as practical teaching, training and guidance in the subject of Kaumar Bhritya were provided to Students of BAMS as per Syllabus of Rajasthan Ayurved University. Group-wise discussions with presentations were also incorporated to make their concepts more clear. Practical training was also conducted.
B) Diploma in Nurse/Compounder Course:
The Department also imparts training to the students of the Diploma in Nurse/Compounder Course as per their Syllabus of the University.
C) Post-Graduate Level:
During the year, theoretical as well as practical teaching, training and guidance in the PG Subjects were provided to PG (M.D. Ayurveda) Scholars as per Syllabus of Rajasthan Ayurved University. Patient Care orientated Training is given to scholars while theory classes were delivered by the Faculty Members to advance knowledge of the Subject. The Department adopts innovative techniques to train their Post Graduate scholars.
D) Ph.D. Level:
Teaching, training and research guidance were given to Ph.D. scholars on their subjects of research as per rules and directions of Rajasthan Ayurved University. Research projects were taken up for this purpose. Every effort is made to develop their competence in advanced concepts of research in the areas of child health care by incorporating fundamentals of Ayurveda.

CLINICAL FACILITIESThe department is having well-established infrastructure, and offers clinical services for a range of pediatric disorders by application of Ayurvedic treatment regimens through its well-functioning following units/clinics –
1. General Pediatric O.P.D. -
In the Institute hospital experts of the department offer their clinical services every day in OPD room number 05.
2. General Pediatric I.P.D. -
Patients are admitted and taken care of for the management of different types of diseases in IPD. We have sufficient 37 beds including general pediatric and newborn care.
3. Child Mental Health Unit -
Special treatment facilities are available for various children's mental disorders like Autism, Attention Deficit/Hyperactive Disorders (AD/HD), Mental retardation, Academic stress, Memory related diseases etc. This unit is attracting patients from various places in the country.
4. Pediatric Panchakarma Unit -
Specialized Panchakarma procedures are performed in Children to manage various neuro-muscular disorders and other disorders like - Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy, Paralysis etc.
5. Vaccination Unit -
Facility for vaccination to children is made available under National Immunization Programme.
6. Swarna Prashan Unit-
Established on 1st September, 2016. The Department provides free swarna prashan to children on every pushya nakshtra days every month.
7. Child Community Health Programme-
The department is running a community health project under which, regular health check up camps are organized at different villages and schools situated near the institute.

Public Health Initiative (PHI) Project:
Title of the project: AYURVEDA INTERVENTIONS TO REDUCE AND PREVENT MALNUTRITION IN CHILDREN OF JAMWARAMGARH BLOCK OF JAIPUR DISTRICT, RAJASTHAN.
Target Population: Children of 1-6 year age of either sex of mild, moderate and severe malnutrition with or without comorbidities.
Area of Study: The project will be carried out in Jamwaramgarh Block of Jaipur district, Rajasthan. Jamwaramgarh is one of 13 Tehsils of Jaipur district of Rajasthan. There are 233 villages and 1 town in Jamwaramgarh.As per the Census India 2011, Jamwaramgarh Tehsil/Block has 49,963 households population of 303,236 of which 158,429 are males and 144,807 are females.
The population of Children of age 0-6 years is 48768 which is 16% of the total population. There are 26074 male and 22694 female children. As the target population is children between 1-6 years of age, the population will be 40,966 which 16% less than total 0-6 years children, who will be screened for Malnutrition, in which 15,034 that is 36.7% of total child are predictable as malnourished according to NFHS – 4 (2015-16). According to a study in Jaipur rural, 40.87% children are in grade I, 29.19% are in grade II, 18.24% are in grade III of malnutrition and 11.7% are in grade IV malnutrition. Therefore, as per the findings of the study, further 1760 children of severe malnutrition requiring hospitalization (Grade IV) will also be excluded. 2800children in Grade III category, 4500 in Grade II and 6200 in Grade I are anticipated for intervention. (Total = 13500 approx.)
Population to be covered: 40,966
Population with intervention (Direct beneficiaries receiving the intervention): 13,500 Disease target: Malnutrition Interventions: Category 1 / Grade III Malnutrition: Ashwagandhadi Leha, Arvindasava and Dhatri Lauha with dietary advice (ICMR). Category 2 / Grade II Malnutrition: Ashwagandhadi Leha and Arvindasava with dietary advice (ICMR). Category 3 / Grade I Malnutrition: Arvindasava with dietary advice. (ICMR)
Aim and objectives:
Aim: To mitigate malnutrition in children with Ayurveda interventions in the identified population
Objective:
1. To contribute in reduction and prevention of mortality and morbidity associated with malnutrition.
2. To enhance the Ayurveda interventions among population.
3. To educate, aware, and sensitize the people about good food and daycare practices through Ayurveda.
4. To improve nutritional and immunity status in children.
5. To provide awareness and counseling support to malnourished children and their parents along with common people.
6. To improve the quality of life (QoL) in malnourished child through better utilization of Ayurveda interventions.
Methods:
Phase I: Baseline Survey
House to house Survey will be done in a prescribed format, Involvement of Sarpancha or Gram Panchayat, Association with Anganwadi workers and their upskilling, Training of AWWs will be done through lectures, live consultation and bedside sessions etc., Reinforcing the potentials of Anganwadi workers and care givers.
Phase II : Awareness activities, Screening of target population and Drug Interventions.
Awareness regarding the importance of nutrition in health and wellness and future outcome
Public meetings- once in a month
Household visits – once in a month
Usage of media-radio, local cable, Newspaper- once in a month
Street plays showing the impact of malnutrition on future adults- once in a month
Use of IEC materials- Banners, posters etc
Audiovisual shows
Public Awareness Rallies- once in a month, with the theme to mitigate malnutrition from India by 2022 by 25% or less (New India@75)
Deliverables:
Step I: Baseline survey to collect information regarding key risk factor identification for malnutrition in children in Jamwaramgarh block, Jaipur.
Step II: Association with Anganwadi Workers and their capacity building through training (lectures, live consultations etc.)
Step III: Awareness campaigns through house to house visits, public rallys, street plays, newspapers, use of media and mobile app etc.
Step IV: Screening of Participants (Assessed for eligibility) and Allocation to into 3 categories of malnutrition as (Grade III, Grade II, Grade I)
Step V: Clinical intervention and data analysis.
